Classic Controller Style Mods For Wiimot ...

Let's cut to the chase here... I'm an old-school gamer and I think the Wiimote is gimmicky and poorly implemented. Does anyone know of a way to alter the controller to more closely resemble, for example, the classic controller?I've been trying to devise my own mod for this, but the implementation of the motion sensing makes it a bit problematic... particularly when trying to devise a controller to work for all or most game scenarios. Any input from anyone would be appreciated on this... I'm willing to collaborate with interested parties to figure something out. Please don't respond with your commentary about how I suck because the Wii controller is innovative etc etc etc. That's not the purpose of this thread. I understand people like it, or it wouldn't sell. I don't like it and I'm not alone and that's the purpose of me seeking out and/or attempting to start this project. Classic Controller Style Mods For Wiimot ...
If you don't like it, why did you buy it? :?. Classic Controller Style Mods For Wiimot ...
thats like saying you like the body of the car but the driving is aweful. You aren't going to find away around that, unless you are trying to bash the Wii I suggest you just sell it.
u answered yourself, you say you have problems making this mod because of the motion sensing.... ummmm... thats maybe the reason of why the wiimote is shaped like that... so, dont say is badly implemented blah gimmicky blah
Did I not just say to avoid posting if you didn't have anything to add? I own the console and a handful of games and I want to make my experience with the console better. Bash Nintendo... did you not notice my avatar is from an NES game? If it works for you, then that's fine. You're not who I'm looking to hear from.EDIT: And I bought the console for Mario and Zelda games, as Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't design for any other company.

I don't think there is a way for you to mod the control like that, and also it would be kind ofawkward, but for old school gamers like you, I would say just to buy old school games and the classic controller because playing galaxy with standard controls wouldn't feel the same, and shooters are only controlled nicely on the Wii to begin with. So I'm not so sure.

So I'm not so sure.
Well, I'm a cross-platform gamer so I get the shooters elsewhere. I mainly bought the Wii for Smash Bros (which will use a regular controller setup), as well as Mario Galaxy and the prettier verison of Twilight Princess. I was considering getting the GC version of Twilight Princess because the Wiimote functionality felt very tacked on to me. As far as Mario Galaxy, I like the game because it's more like Super Mario 64 than Sunshine was, but the levels are designed better and Nintendo clearly have a better grasp on how to handle 3D than when they were making that game. I still can't control Mario while wearing the Wing Cap to save my life, lol.The main reason of the thread wasn't to create problems, but rather see if such a thing would be possible to do for people like me who are more inclined to play with a regular controller. The problem isn't fitting the parts into a controller shell. I could easily do that, but playing while pointing the controller at the screen and moving said controller side to side, and then tilting the controller all over the place while playing to trigger the accellerometers would probably get awkward. I'm guessing the only way to make this happen would be to construct a new controller from the ground up rather than with mods, which is beyond the scope of my training.I figured the fact that I think the Wiimote detracts more from the gameplay than adds to it (in some cases... it works for Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, but I think Mario Galaxy would have been done better with a regular controller -- just MY OPINION) would be a controversial opinion around here, but my determination to work around it is in itself evidence of my affection for Nintendo software.
I have to disagree with that, those levels where you have to balance yourself on a ball would have been harder without the tilting, or not, the star bits would have taken a lot longer, well basically I just think it would have been awkward since for me andmany other people the motion controls were perfect. There are games where theWii remote does enhance gameplay, RE4 Wii edition is the best becauseof the Wii controls, same for Metroid Prime 3.
so it sounds like you want a ps3 but with crappy graphics and good games....a ps3 with good games...LOL

MP3 worked out great, and RE4 was really good (especially for a port).
so it sounds like you want a ps3 but with crappy graphics and good games....a ps3 with good games...LOL
What is your problem? Firstly, I own a PS3, along with a PS2, a PS1 and a PSP... and an Xbox 360 (sold the original Xbox)... and a Wii and every other Nintendo console and handheld to come up the pike. I even owned a Power Glove and a Virtual Boy, which you probably wouldn't remember because you're like an eight-year-old fanboy that sits around in his dino PJs thinking about how Nintendo can do no wrong. So sounds like you just want to pick a fight.

There's no point in playing Wii Sports with a regular controller, after all. I do see the point about the rolling the ball part of SMG, and I do agree that SMG was one of the better uses of the technology, but if it's like 1am and the missus is asleep, I don't want to be flapping my arms around and such, I just want to lay back and relax with a nice game. And if laying back means it isn't registering that I'm pointing the Wiimote at the sensor bar at the right angle and all this and that... I think it just overcomplicates the system and makes me even less inclined to play it. There's no denying tha greatness of the core gameplay of SMG... I, myself, rated it a 9.5, but nonetheless, sometimes I don't want to spaz out and be waving the Wiimote around and such.

I own both xboxs and i have owned playstains but sold them.

But, unfortunately, most of the feedback I'm getting is fanboy dumbasses toeing the company line instead of reading the thread and adding objective commentary, so I'm giving up on it.

No I don't know of such, but I'd like to here your findings on that. What I wanted to do (and may still in the future) is to put all of the components of the Wiimote in an NES controller.
No I don't know of such, but I'd like to here your findings on that. What I wanted to do (and may still in the future) is to put all of the components of the Wiimote in an NES controller.
Well, you could still do that... I mean, the accelerometers are attached to the PCB so the tilt / motion sensing would be built into whatever game you threw it in, and then the IR thingie could be mounted to the top, but then it's just a Wiimote in a different case and you'd have to find another place for the nunchuck parts. What I really wanted to do was combine the Wiimote and the nunchuck into one classic controller style, but the tilting and aiming functionality would probably make for a difficult play experience. Particularly when you have to hold it sideways and do something. I dunno though. I'll see if I can figure something out with it.It's not like I think the Wiimote is the worst thing ever, and if I said so it's because I haven't been having the greatest week ever. I'm just trying to streamline the setup so I don't have to have one hand tethered to the other and can make the entire setup less cumbersome.

so kinda like a N64 controller. the nunchuck on the bottom and the buttons above it or to the side or wherever.
